Urine Adulteration Strips (6 Marker) – 25 Strips per Pack

The ITS Urine Adulteration Strips are a rapid “dip-and-read” screening test for the determination of diluted or adulterated urine specimens. Adulteration test strips, sometimes known as Specimen Validity Test, (S.V.T.) are a rapid, one step screening test used to determine if a urine sample has been adulterated, tampered with or diluted. The strips simultaneously detects the presence of 6 markers/parameters: Creatinine, Nitrite, Glutaraldehyde, pH, Specific Gravity, and Oxidants in human urine. The test strips work based on the colour derived from the chemical reaction between the chemical reagent on each test pad and the urine sample, giving a semi-quantitative result via a comparison colour chart.

The list of Adulterants (markers/parameters) detectable with Urine Adulteration Strips are as follows:

  • pH Level tests for the presence of acidic and alkaline adulterants. Normal urine pH ranges from 4.0 to 9.0. Values below pH 4.0 or above pH 9.0 are indicative of adulteration
  • Specific Gravity tests for sample dilution. Normal levels for specific gravity will range from 1.003-1.030. Specific gravity levels of less than 1.003 or higher than 1.030 is an indication of adulteration
  • Nitrate tests for the presence of exogenous nitrate. Nitrate level above 7.5 mg/dl in human urine is considered abnormal. Common occurrences are the additive of such products as “Klear”
  • Glutaraledhyde tests for the presence of exogenous aldehyde. Glutaraldehyde is not a natural component of human urine and it should not be present in normal urine. Common occurrences are the additives of such products such as “Clear Choice” or “UrinAid”
  • Creatinine test the daily creatinine excretion, related to muscle mass of the human body, is usually constant. Urine specimens with creatinine levels of less than 20 mg/dl are indications of adulteration. This test covers the most common form of specimen tampering, specimen dilution. Dilution using diuretics is also often referred to as “flushing”
  • Oxidant tests for the presence of oxidizing reagents such as bleach, hydrogen peroxide and pyridinium chlorochromate in urine

Instructions for use:

  • Check the strips are within the Expiry Date
  • Remove one strip from the bottle/container
  • Dip the strip into the urine sample for approx. 2 seconds ensuring all reagent test pads are immersed
  • After one 1 minute the colours of the reagent pads are visually compared to the colour chart provided. The results are read/interpreted for each of the test markers/parameters
  • An abnormal result for any of the markers/parameters suggest that the sample has been manipulated (including consumption of “detox / masking agents”), altered or otherwise contaminated
  • Each bottle/container includes complete testing instructions, technical details and background information on how to carry out the testing procedure
  • All abnormal results should be confirmed by a laboratory
